People are starting to share their best of lists as we come to the close of 2023. Where did the year go? Passed in a flash! So much has happened and so much more is in store for 2024. Poetry…head on over to Poet’s Place to see what Linda Kaye has for you.
So, what are your holiday plans? Art, art, and more art? Sure hope so. More art, less xmas music. Remember to buy handmade for the holidays! Stay away from the big chains. Go to the craft fairs, and the neighborhood sales, and the little boutiques. And The Makery, just sayin’. We’ll have ornament making on First Thursday, December 7. Shameless self promotion.
But seriously, check out some of the suggestions to see art around town. And keep it safe and sane.

EXHIBITION OPENING!
The Spirit of Play: Craft and Imagination
December 9, 2023–March 2, 2024
Opening reception: Saturday, December 9, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Celebrate the opening of our newest exhibition, The Spirit of Play, and meet some of the artists who are featured in the 2023 episodes of Craft in America's PBS documentary series, PLAY and MINIATURES.
For artists, play can mean serious work. Play allows the mind to roam and encounter unusual solutions, whether it be in process or concept. The processes of making and imagining work in tandem for these artists, where grand, exquisite, whimsical and magical forms emerge from diligent exploration.
Participating artists include:
Artist, puppeteer, museum educator, Schroeder Cherry
Paper sculptor Roberto Benavidez
Piñata artist Lorena Robletto
Artist, advocate, educator Calder Kamin
Miniaturist Mark Murphy

About the Episodes—NOW STREAMING!
PLAY explores the intersection of play and artistry. From puppets to piñatas to
unicorns, this hour reveals how artists use the tools of childhood to inspire imagination, celebration and wonder.
MINIATURES explores the world of small objects and the artists that make
them. From folk art to marionettes to tiny furniture, the artists of MINIATURES reveal what motivates them to work at a scale that demands a masterful attention to detail.
Watch the episodes on the PBS App, pbs.org/craftinamerica, and craftinamerica.org.
The PBS broadcast premiere for PLAY and MINIATURES is December 29, 2023 9:00pm and 10:00pm (check local listings).

Already this month AMOCA opened its doors for a three-day Open House & Holiday Market, where visitors explored current exhibitions, enjoyed docent-led tours and wheel-throwing demonstrations, shopped one-of-a-kind finds, and more! Don’t worry: there’s still plenty of time to visit and shop! The museum is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 AM – 4 PM through the rest of the month (with the exception of Sundays December 24 and 31).
