We ended August with a little hurricane in LA. Burning Man turned into Muddy Man. Climate change is real. But most of us know that. Things we need to live with and figure out how to navigate in the future. Many artists are using this calamity we’re in to inspire their art. I know we need to use it to inspire change in the way we all live. Here’s one of the conundrums though. I’m an artist, as are a majority of my friends. We make more stuff. All in the name of art, which is a good thing, until it’s not. Those that re-use, and recycle, and repurpose, rock. But as a glass artist, I see some creations, my own included, and wonder if any of it is necessary? Do we need more stuff? Meanwhile, I’m off to make more stuff…
Experiences aren’t stuff, so you can indulge in experiences without acquiring more stuff. Now if you’re going out to see art, you may be seeing stuff. I know it’s art, but it is also stuff. Oh, what a tangled web we weave. Poetry isn’t stuff, is it? Well check out Poet’s Place and some poetry. Linda Kaye has wrangled a bunch of poets and we get the benefits. Disclaimer, for the first time I have submitted something. I never think of myself as a poet, but I wrote something that goes with my art piece in The Makery’s newest art show, Enter the Goddess(es), curated by Laura Brody.
Below I’ve listed some suggestions of art to see, experiences to have.
