How Can it be November Already?

November 07, 2023

I heard Christmas music in Target last night. Not cool. Home Depot is overflowing with giant animated Christmas decorations. Also not cool. It really removes the joy of the holidays if they are forced upon us months in advance. Listen to me bitch and moan. I know you all feel it too. So, I will make art to soothe my soul, and give me things to sell during the holiday season. Creativity is my happy place! And sharing it with others is cool.

Check out this month’s Poet’s Place to see what Linda Kaye’s poetry posse has to say. Here are some other suggestions of places to go and art to see.

Go check this out!!

REVEAL: Recent Acquisitions 2020-2023 opens this week in the Armstrong Gallery. This exhibition invites visitors to explore the range of vibrant, serious, tactile, diverse, iconic, and playful pieces the museum has acquired as well as to learn more about the acquisitions process.

Also this month, the museum hosts artist Cj Jilek in the AMOCA galleries for an in-person talk on Saturday, November 11; we'll converse with artists Mark Burns and Vick Quezada virtually on Thursday, November 16; and, on Wednesday, November 29, AMOCA presents a virtual talk with Artist in Residence Claudia V. Solórzano for a peek inside her artistic practice.

On Friday, November 17, you can join Members Clay Day and learn the basics of painting with underglaze. Also be sure to save the date for our upcoming Open House & Holiday Market December 1, 2, and 3! And don't forget, AMOCA continues to welcome walk-in visitors on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 AM to 4PM.

For design lovers out there, check out WestEdge Design Fair, November 16-18 at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica. You’ll see companies and designers future products for your home and life.

Metro Art x Silkroad Present: Railroad Roots

The forthcoming American Railroad tour—just one component of the multi-year American Railroad initiative, Silkroad’s most ambitious project to date—comprises stops in locations with significant connections to the U.S. Transcontinental Railroad. In addition to previously announced tour dates, Metro Art x Silkroad are pleased to present a free event on November 13 at Los Angeles Union Station.

The evening includes musical performances by Silkroad Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens, Silkroad artists Wu Man and Haruka Fujii, and guest artist Pura Fé, as well as a discussion about the railroad, the communities who built it, and the people who were displaced and most affected by it.
