I’m a maker. I’m happiest when I’m making something whether it be a piece of jewelry, a glass plate or drinking glass, or even a poster for an event at The Makery. What do you like to make? What feeds your soul? What inspires your creative muse? I’ll share some of the places where you may find inspiration. One place may be Poet’s Place, where Linda Kaye gathers poets and their poetry ti share with all of you. If you’d like to share some, let Linda know.
I recently started tinkering with ChatGPT to learn about it and what it can do to improve the quality of my life, before it kills us all, just kidding (sort of). Over at my page The Creative Space I used it to blog about the history of Mid Century Modern design. It is an interesting and somewhat frightening tool, that everyone needs to learn about. Figure out how it can help you, not replace you.
Now, where shall we go to find that inspiration and see some art.
Every First Thursday of the month Downtown LA has its Art Walk and the Los Angeles Makery is on that map. Stop by and get a preview of the newest show, Photo Los Angeles. Saturday is the opening for the actual show. Come to either, come to both!
Summer is heating up, but we're keeping things cool at the American Museum of Ceramic Art. On Friday, July 7 we're hosting First Fridays, when you can choose your own ticket prices and enjoy current exhibitions, thanks to generous support from our Board of Directors. On Saturday, July 8, come on out to AMOCA for a talk and behind-the-scenes studio visit with Artist-in-Residence Natalia Arbelaez. And, there's more fun coming later in the month! On Saturday, July 15, join us in the gallery for a panel discussion with some of the talented artists in our current exhibition Making in Between: Queer Clay. And, on Saturday, July 23 make some new friends and try a new brew at the Queer Clay Meet Cute. Over in the studio, we're hosting one-hour introductory sessions on July 14, and summer six-week classes begin July 10! Seats in select classes are still available, but sessions fill up quickly so be sure to sign up soon if you're interested in getting your hands on some clay this summer.
